First Year Scholarships


Candidates competing for the Camras Scholars Program, one of Illinois Tech's highest undergraduate academic honors, satisfy very high selection standards. Students must demonstrate outstanding academics, involvement in extracurricular activities and dedication to leadership.

In honor of their service to the city of Chicago, Illinois Tech offers $20,000 annual scholarships to the children and grandchildren of members of the Chicago Police Department and Chicago Fire Department. The Chicago Police and Fire Departments Scholarship is also open to the children and grandchildren of members of the Chicago Paramedic Department.

The Collens Scholarship provides full tuition and fees to eligible high school seniors with significant need graduating from a Chicago public high school or a Chicago charter high school to attend Illinois Tech as a full-time student.

The Crown Scholarship provides full tuition for five years to one first-year, full-time architecture students. The Crown Scholarship looks for creativity, ingenuity and a desire to study architecture in a historic place like Chicago, Illinois Tech, and S. R. Crown Hall. Students need to provide academic credentials and an original freehand drawing. Selected applicants are invited to interview on campus in mid-February with a panel of architecture professionals and college studio faculty.

The Duchossois Leadership Scholars Program is a nationally preeminent, elite scholarship program providing full-tuition with a room and board allowance attracting top students nationwide who demonstrate exceptional leadership potential and academic success in their projected field. The Elevate program is a hub that connects Illinois Tech students with hundreds of experiential learning opportunities offered at the university and beyond. Select students are offered awards up to $5,000 to use toward Elevate experiences.

All freshman domestic students are eligible for the Heald Scholarship (starting at $10,000). All full-time students will automatically be considered for this merit-based scholarship when their application for admission is reviewed.

ILLINOIS TECHVex Robotics Scholarship

New in 2019! Illinois Tech is proud to award scholarships to students who actively participate in high school VEX robotics programs. This scholarship attracts candidates that possess a strong academic record, a passion for science and technology, and drive to become leaders and innovators in STEM related subjects. Recipients of a VEX scholarship are eligible for a merit scholarship award of $25,000 per year for up to four years (five years for architecture). Applications must be received by January 15 of a student’s senior year.

ILLINOIS TECH FIRST Robotics Scholarship

Illinois Tech FIRST scholarships are awarded to students who actively participate in the FIRST Tech Challenge and the FIRST Robotics Competition. This program attracts candidates that demonstrate a strong academic record, passion for science and technology, and drive to become a leader, entrepreneur or innovator. Recipients of a FIRST scholarship are eligible for a merit scholarship award of $25,000 per year for up to four years (five years for Architecture).

Named for University Regent Al Self and his wife, Lila, the M.A. and Lila Self Leadership Academy Scholarship is a distinguished and prestigious award given to the top applicants to the university that demonstrate exceptional leadership potential.

All branches of the United States military are represented at Illinois Tech. The U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy are headquartered at IIT; the U.S. Army is based at a partner university, but has an on campus office as well. All three branches serve the entire Chicago area.

  • The 195th Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps Cadet Wing is stationed on Illinois Tech's Main Campus in Stuart Building, Room 208
  • The Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps office is located on Illinois Tech's Main Campus in Stuart Building, Room 217
  • The Chicago Fire Battalion Army Reserve Officer Training Corps Program is headquartered on the campus of the University of Illinois at Chicago and has their Illinois Tech offices on the entire first floor of Farr Hall.
