Test Scores

How do I submit my test scores?

IIT requires official GRE, GMAT, TOEFL, PTE, or IELTS scores sent directly to IIT by the testing service. Please request that your scores be set to institution code 1318; no department code is required. We do not accept score reports submitted by the student.

Please note: Any difference between an applicant's name in the score report and in the application to IIT will delay or prevent IIT from properly obtaining scores. Be sure that the name you give the testing service matches exactly the name you provided on your application to IIT.

If this did not answer your question please contact our office using this form.

Do I need to submit TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE Scores?

Any applicant whose undergraduate degree was earned at an institution where the primary language of instruction is not English must submit Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), Pearson Test of English (PTE), or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) scores. Read complete English proficiency requirements here.

If this did not answer your question please contact our office using this form.

I requested my scores from ETS but they don't appear on my record. Why?

If information between your application and your score report does not match, there can be a delay in processing your test scores. From the time a score is submitted to IIT it can take 2-3 weeks to show up in our system. If it has been longer than this and we do not have your scores, please use the Applicant Portal to send the following information.

GRE/TOEFL

  1. The registration number from your GRE or TOEFL test
  2. The date you completed your GRE or TOEFL test
  3. Your date of birth (please write out the month and date rather than using numbers, e.g., June 1, 1984 rather than 6/1/84 or 01/06/84)
  4. Verify that your name was spelled exactly the same way on your GRE and/or TOEFL registration as it is on your IIT application. If you used a different spelling, provide the full name you used on your test registration(s).
  5. Verify the exact email address you used when taking your exam.

IELTS

  1. Your IIT Campus Wide ID (CWID) number
  2. The Test Report Form Number
  3. The date you completed your IELTS exam

English is not my native language, but it was the primary language of instruction at my previous college. Do I need to take an English proficiency test?

Applicants who hold undergraduate degrees from institutions where the primary language of instruction is English are exempt from the TOEFL, PTE, or IELTS requirement. However, these scores may be requested from any applicant at the discretion of the Office of Graduate Admission or a degree-seeking applicant's academic department. Review IIT English Proficiency Requirements here.

If I am a permanent resident, do I need to take the TOEFL?

The TOEFL, PTE, or IELTS requirement will be considered on a case-by-case basis for applicants who do not hold undergraduate degrees from English-speaking institutions but who have lived, worked, or studied in the United States for a substantial period of time. Your admission specialist in the Office of Graduate Admission will make this determination with your academic department upon review of your application file.
