The best way to find answers regarding the status of your application is by logging in to the Applicant Portal. Please note that once you have uploaded all of your required application documents you must allow 1-2 weeks for your specialist to review and verify your credentials. If you meet the minimum standards to be considered for admission your application will be forwarded to the department for a decision. This may take 4-6 weeks.
We encourage you to ensure that emails sent from Graduate Admission are not sent to your spam folder. Additionally, please remember to check your status regularly by logging in to the Applicant Portal, as well as by checking your email (we send various notifications to the email address you have given us).
Please contact us if you have questions regarding the following
- Your application fee
- Your CWID (Campus Wide ID) number if it has been more than five days since you have submitted your application and still have not received it
- Your uploaded document(s), if you need to resubmit a document or documents because of a problem when uploading
If it has been more than six weeks since your application has been sent to the department for a decision, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include the subject line "Application Processing Inquiry." (Our response to your inquiry may be delayed if you do not include the requested subject line.)
Due to the number of emails received by our office it is important to use the Applicant Portal to check the status of your application. It is updated in real time and is the same source used by our office to check the status of your application.
NOTE: application documents must be uploaded for each application you submit, each time you submit an application.
The application fee for graduate programs at IIT is $60. Please note that the application fee for Stuart School of Business is $75. The application fee may be paid (a) by credit card or PayPal account when prompted at the end of the online application process, (b) by credit card through the IIT Student Accounting Office payment website, or (c) by check or money order made payable to Illinois Institute of Technology and mailed to the Office of Graduate Admissions. For the most expedient processing, we recommend option (a). If you choose to pay by check or money order, please specify the fee amount in U.S. dollars (USD). Other currencies cannot be accepted.
The application fee is waived for applicants who have been enrolled at IIT in the past or who attend an IIT graduate open house event within a year of applying. IIT alums, please visit the MyIIT Portal to access a waiver code to have the application fee waived. The code is on the "Academics" tab in the "Graduate Admission - Student" channel. If you don't see the "Graduate Admission - Student" channel then you first need to add it to your "Academics" tab. To add the "Graduate Admission - Student" channel to your "Academics" tab, click on "Content Layout" in the upper left-hand corner of the MyIIT portal (after you've logged in). In the "Select a Category" dropdown select "Academics" and click "Go." In the "Select a Channel" selection box that appears select "Graduate Admissions - Student" and click the "Add Channel" button in the far right-hand corner of the page.
If you graduated from IIT before spring 2009, or if you don't have an active IIT email, please see the "Transcripts" section below for instructions on how to request an IIT email and portal account.
Please do not submit your official documents via post. All documents must be uploaded via the applicant portal. Please follow the instructions below for submission.
- Scan a copy of your official and original paper transcripts, individual mark sheets, or electronic transcript provided to you from your institution’s Registrar. Do NOT upload your institution's web-based academic record or a document stating it is not an official transcript. Please note attested copies are not acceptable and will delay processing time. You must include an official English translation if your official transcripts are not issued in English.
- Make sure that all critical and identifying marks have been scanned and are legible. These include the institution's name, your name, and the names of your courses and the grades you have received. It is important that you scan both the front and back (if there is information on the back) of your documents: we will need to be able to review the information provided on the back of your documents concerning credit hours, the institution's grading scale, etc.
- All files MUST be in PDF format.
- If the degree is completed, you MUST upload your original degree certificate or provisional certificate through the Applicant Portal along with your academic transcripts or mark sheets.
For complete document upload instructions please visit the document upload instructions page.

Please complete Graduate Admission's Financial Support Form (pdf). Please read all instructions carefully to ensure that each required section of the form is complete.
You must upload the form along with all supporting documentation through the Applicant Portal. Please note, submission of this form is not required for review of your application.
You may submit your financial support documents after being notified of admission, if you wish; however, an I-20 cannot be issued to any admitted student until valid documents have been received and approved by the Office of Graduate Admission. For this reason, we encourage you to submit them as early as possible.
A copy of your passport identity page must be submitted through the Applicant Portal.
The copy of your passport identity page is not required for purposes of application review and admission decision, although applicants are strongly encouraged to submit it prior to admission, if possible. This documentation aids in efficient processing of your I-20, if you are admitted.
The School Transfer Form (pdf) must be submitted by any international student currently studying on an F-1 visa who intends to transfer to IIT from another institution in the United States. It indicates the release of your I-20 by your current institution, permitting IIT to create a new I-20 for you. This form should be submitted only after you officially have been admitted to IIT.
